Great Big Story Earns Nomination In 40th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards

Today, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) nominated Great Big Story for a News & Documentary Emmy Award.
“Art and Soul”, a micro-documentary about the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California, received the nomination for “Outstanding Arts, Culture, or Entertainment Report.” The category featured six nominees in all, which include Into the Wild (produced for 60 Minutes), Deadly Haze: Inside the Fraternity Crises (a CNN Special Report), Follow This (Teen Boss — Netflix), A New Dawn — One Father’s Love Helps Family Thrive After Son’s Near-Death Experience (NBC News Digital) and YouTube’s Hidden Camera Problem (VICE News Tonight — HBO).
“Art and Soul” looks at the world’s first and largest nonprofit art center dedicated to giving artists with disabilities a space to display their talents. It offers the tools, space, and inspiration needed to create amazing artwork. Some of the center’s artists have been displayed in museums and galleries around the world, including MoMA and Venice Biennale.
The story was produced by Mark Boyer and Noah Throop. Senior Producer Ingela Travers-Hayward, Supervising Producer Sadie Bass, and Executive Producer Courtney Coupe.
Earlier this year, “Art and Soul” won the Webby Award for best “Social Culture & Lifestyle” story. It’s also the recipient of a Vimeo Staff Pick distinction.
The News & Documentary Emmy awards ceremony will be held at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
This marks the third Emmy nomination received by Great Big Story since the company was founded in 2015.
