This week, Great Big Story continues its flagship series The Brave with a look at five people working tirelessly to build and uplift their communities.

The stories shine spotlights on Judi Sheppard Misset (creator of Jazzercise), Shelia Hill (Community Ambassador, Five Key Schools and Programs), Maria Ochoa (Co-Founder, Tuscon Samaritans), Donahue Fields (Founder, U.S. Adaptive Boxing) and Rick Baker (Hopi High Cross-Country Coach).

Here’s a look at episode one:

Today’s launch marks the third of four special projects scheduled this year, each focused on tackling a unique cause or issue (Q1: planet, Q2: diversity, Q3: community, Q4: adversity).

Previous seasons of The Brave featured in-depth profiles on Teen Climate Activist Greta Thunberg, Plastic Bank Haiti Business Development Manager Richardson Gustave, renowned Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza, as well as Afghan Journalist Khalida Rashid.

All five episodes of the latest season release today exclusively on Great Big Story’s website. On YouTube, the project will release one episode a day throughout the next five days.

And finally, to culminate the series this Friday, October 4th, Great Big Story will be closing the office to participate in a group volunteer project with CityMeals on Wheels, a NYC-based nonprofit dedicated to feeding the city’s homebound elderly population.

More than two dozen employees will volunteer their time by collectively packaging and delivering over 1,000 nourishing meals to community residents in need. Activities will be documented and shared across social media. This will also be the third of four special day of service volunteer projects hosted by Great Big Story in 2019.
