Could artificial grass be the saviour of your runny nose and itchy skin?

If you are one of the 10 million people in the UK suffering from hay fever, you will know all too well about the unavoidable irritation the constant sneezing, watering eyes, and itchiness all over your body cause.

Hay fever is the allergy of pollen, grass, plants or trees. There are allergy relief tablets, nasal sprays, creams and injections on the market to help hay fever sufferers through the summer season — or the hay fever season even.

Though medicines are available, each person’s hay fever varies day by day, and sometimes even prescribed prescriptions don’t do the job. We learn to rely on readily available hay fever tablets and turn a blind eye to the things we can do to naturally prevent the debilitating allergy.

There are certain environmental factors we cannot control or change to relieve our hay fever. Pollen counts will be high or low and we will have no say in the matter. However, there is something we could change about our surroundings that may well be life changing, ridding or reducing our hay fever forevermore.

Grass; one of the most common causes of hay fever for us unfortunate ones prone to pollen allergies. As a child, everybody in my class bonded over the smell of freshly cut grass as the sound of the lawn mower made its way from the school field to our classroom through the open window. I had never liked the smell and could never understand what everybody else loved so much about it.

As the rest of the children directed their noses upwards into the air to sniff the smell of grass as powerfully as they could, I would cause accidental disruption and draw unwanted attention back to me — sneezing, scratching my eyes out, sneezing some more. Now I am an adult, and I still suffer from hay fever, but I have grown to appreciate the smell of freshly cut grass, not for the actual scent of it, but for the nostalgia and reminiscence of summer the smell carries along with it.

Despite my ability of warming to the smell of my own worst enemy, I still try to stay as far away from it as humanly possible. This may seem difficult, grass is everywhere, but there is one place where we can control the environment that unapologetically causes hay fever to flare up — the back garden. Nobody deserves a trigger in their own home, so here is the alternative — artificial grass.

Installing artificial grass in your garden may be the answer you have been searching for all these years. No matter how high the pollen count is, artificial grass does not contain any pollen, so will be a safe haven for you in summer. This will not save you completely from your hay fever, but it will make your garden a more desirable, less threatening place to be in the hay fever season.

So instead of hiding inside all summer or complaining day in day out about your irritable allergies, inform yourself on artificial grass and naturally relieve your symptoms in no time. Along with this, there are many other perks of artificial grass; it is great for children and pets, is low maintenance and adds everlasting beauty to your back garden.
