Writing is one thing, but writing well takes a different skill set.

Here are some tips to help you overcome your writing challenges.

Learn From Your Mistakes

It’s important to understand that it takes a long time to learn this craft. No one starts out immediately with high-quality prose and incredible stories. I wrote a thriller novel a year and a half ago and even now, I’m still editing it here and there. How many times have you written a Medium article thinking it was ready, only to read back through it and catch something that you needed to correct?

Here’s the best thing about this craft — you can always get better. Think about the greatest writers alive. They’re a little older (40s through 60s) and many of them have been writing since their twenties. The proof is there that the more you write, the better you’ll eventually get.

Practice Being Patient

Writing is rarely an overnight “let’s get rich” type of career. Very few debut authors have a New York Times bestseller when their book is published. It’s an occupation that rewards the patient. You could write novels for twenty years and still never become an uber-successful author. There is nothing wrong with that. Only time will tell how your writing…
