Designing a better future: Can ‘tech’ be a force for good?

I’ve been focused on designing organisations for the qualities of trustworthiness for years. At first this didn’t seem all that important to many people I interacted with. Other stuff mattered more.

Over the past few years this dynamic has changed. A lot. The conversation has shifted. The Social Dilemma and its implications are clearer. The evidence continues to suggest that more ethical, trustworthy business practices are great for society and for business.

But — and I’ve called this out plenty — we lack a coordinated approach. We’re too focused on guides, principles and presentations. We should be prioritising skills, toolkits and meaningful action.

We’ve advocated for this type of in a variety of ways. We’ve stood on stage. We’ve worked directly with institutions and groups of all kinds. Heck, we’ve now built a platform.

It’s fair to say that some progress has been made.

The question that matters, however, is: Are we making the right kind of progress fast enough?

This is where measurement comes into play. Measuring the effectiveness of models and methods out in the real world — along with their impact — is something we think a lot about. And it’s something we need to focus more on. We need a more targeted and coordinated approach.
