Why do we Kill 650,000 Whales, Dolphins and Seals Every Year?

Do you like dolphins, whales, seals? I hope you do — I mean, why would you not love them? Life wouldn’t be nearly as awesome if only humans lived on this planet. Yet, a lot of us humans suck because we all are so selfish and haven’t truly grasped the fact that there’s 7 billion other walking apes on this planet (soon to be close to 10 billion) and we all have to find ways to help our environment or else we quickly join the dinosaurs as once-upon-time rulers of planet Earth.

Right now, because of the 7+ billion people eating more fish every year, and an expected increase in global population to rise to 10 billion people by 2050 — the UN estimates our oceans will be fishless by 2050 unless massive action is taken. That’s right, fishless! Say goodbye to Flounder, Flipper, Nemo, and the rest of them because billions of humans have an addiction to cheap ocean caught fish.

Besides the fact that the oceans are estimated to be fishless by 2050 right now marine researchers estimate that we kill about 650,000 whales, dolphins and seals every year as by kill. Meaning because these mammals cannot be sold they are discarded in the ocean dead because they drown to death when they get caught in the fishing nets and can only survive 20 minutes to 2 hours underwater without oxygen.

If we want to have a planet in 50 years we need to tax meat and dairy to help people get healthy but more importantly to help our one and only ecosystem thrive. The tax revenue from the meat and dairy could be used to give the government more money to find illegal fishing vessels. Collectively the environmental damage fisherman are creating have the potential to do way more damage to us then ISIS or any other terrorist groups. Taxing meat and dairy will result in less fish bought every year which is the only effective why to ensure less fisherman are out catching fish in the sea. The clock is ticking, how long do we want to wait until we do something to prevent what could will be the worst thing ever to happen on planet Earth? #EndGreedlicious
