March 10: Celebration of Saints Michael, Anastasia, and Quadratus

Michael the Neomartyr came from the village of Granitsa at Agrafa and was brought up by a faithful Christian family. After the death of his parents, he lived in Thessaloniki and worked as a baker. His faith in Christ led him to philanthropy and to catechizing people. In A.D. 1547, he was burned alive for his actions, thus winning the crown of martyrdom and a place in the calendar of the Orthodox Faith.
Anastasia lived during the reign of Justinian (A.D. 527–565) in the palace, as a lady-in-waiting of Queen Theodora. Her virtues attracted both the interest of Justinian who awarded her the title of patrician and the envy of the queen. In order to avoid both of them, Anastasia sought refuge in Alexandria. There, at a region called Pempton, she built a monastery which was called the Patrician Monastery. When Justinian discovered her whereabouts, Anastasia left and found new refuge in the skete of Abbot Daniel, where she lived an ascetic life for thirty years until her death.
Saint Quadratus from Corinth, martyred along with his friends during the persecutions of Emperor Decius against the Christians. He was the son of a Christian who fled to the mountains, while she was pregnant. She died leaving her son to grow helpless and alone, with the protection of the Lord. As Quadratus grew up, he devoted himself to teaching the Christian faith for which he martyred by decapitation.
