March 6: The uncovering of the Precious Cross
In A.D. 326, when Emperor of the Roman Empire was Constantine, the first Christian emperor in history, his mother Helen went to Jerusalem to find the Cross where Jesus Christ was crucified. According to the scriptures, three crosses were found during the relative excavation, but the idea of Saint Helen to place a dead person about to be buried on each cross, led to the discovery of the one and only cross, the one upon which Jesus was crucified. The dead person which was placed on Jesus’ cross resurrected. By order of Saint Constantine, the Church of the Resurrection was erected at the place where the Cross was found, while half of the Cross is kept in Jerusalem and the other half in Istanbul.
