The purpose of this Green Rhinos Medium Publication is to provide an online platform for anyone involved or interested in the Green Rhinos Program to have a voice. Students, teachers, parents, people in India, in the United States and anywhere else. Medium is a great way for people to connect, learn, and share their opinions.

Step 1: Creating an Account on Medium

On the homepage for Medium, you’ll see a “sign in/sign up” option in the top right corner. Click that.

You have the option to connect your Medium account with your Facebook or Twitter account. This way, you can more easily find friends on Medium and share your stories instantly via social media. However, if you’d prefer, you can sign up with an email ID. Medium will then email you a link to start your account.

This is your personal homepage on Medium, your home base. From here you can immediately write a new story, search for other writers and publications, manage your drafts and of course, read articles!

Step 2: Following

This is the Green Rhinos Publication which you are currently on. After you’ve created your account, you can follow our publication by clicking “follow” in the top right (highlighted above.) That way we can see who’s keeping up to date with the Green Rhinos Program, and who’s writing about it. If you write something about the Green Rhinos, we’ll add you as a writer to our publication! Then you can send stories and opinions directly to us and have your work featured on our site.

Now, speaking of writing…

Step 3: Writing

Starting a story on Medium is as simple as one click. From your homepage, you can select “Write a Story”. Medium offers some very simple and effective ways to make your stories dynamic. For example, the “+” icon above allows you to add pictures, videos, and embed links anywhere in your article. Once you’re finished with the story, you can publish it using the highlighted “publish” icon. You can always edit and delete your stories, even after publishing them.

Tags are a useful way to increase your exposure on Medium. Think of them as keywords. You can add up to five tags to your story, usually things pertaining to your topic. For example, if you’re writing about the Green Rhinos Program you can add “Education” and/or “Environment” as tags. If someone on Medium is searching for “environmental education,” then your writing is more likely to be found!

Another great means for connecting through Medium is by responding to other writers’ work.

Step 4: Connecting

With any article on Medium, you have the option to “recommend” or “respond.” To recommend the article simply click the green heart. This will let the writer know that you liked their story, and the more a story is recommended the more exposure it gets on Medium. If you’d like to respond to an article, click the little speech-bubble icon next to the heart.

This will open up a response. You can write as much or as little as you’d like, ask questions, and include photos, videos and embeds just like in a full story. When you respond to someone’s article, you’ve opened up the possibility of a dialogue between yourself and the writer, as well as others who wish to contribute.

Step 5: Spreading the Word

Whether or not you decide to submit content to the publication, please share it with your friends on Facebook and other means of social media to help us get the word out!

Just like most things on Medium, sharing is as simple as one click.

You can share stories and articles directly to your Facebook or Twitter accounts by clicking the icons that appear at the bottom of every story on Medium.

We hope that this explanation was helpful, and that you choose to get involved with the Green Rhinos Publication! As always if you have any comments or questions, you can reach us at greenrhinosblog@gmail.com.
