This is just fascinating!!! Wondering what am I talking about? I’m referring to the new digital lifestyle and how humanity is coping up with the new challenges thrown at them so quickly. As many say, “there is always a light at the end of a tunnel”, I am eagerly waiting to see how societies will evolve after the pandemic. During these days we have also seen a lot of reports talking about sustainability and environment, “How the pandemic affected environment?”, “The decrease in pollution across the globe due to pandemic” and “How nature fixes itself?” etc. As a technology entrepreneur living in Sweden, I have always been passionate about building something related to sustainability, environment, and innovation. In the last couple of months, I was wondering maybe this is a good time to start working on an application that encourages dialogue and education in societies about sustainability and the environment.

During my previous articles, I talked about WAX Blockchain, how it is disrupting the gaming industry, and about the era of digital assets. Today, I am thrilled and excite to share that we are building our first game ever using WAX Blockchain. I would like to focus this article on the reasons behind why we have chosen WAX Blockchain to build our game and why you should as well.

Let’s talk about the game first, presenting you the new game of the digital asset’s era:

Battles of Humanity — A card game empowering sustainability education with a fun experience

Battles of Humanity — A multiplayer online card game with a mix of fantasy and medieval themes focused on educating people about sustainability while having a fun and competitive experience. The game brings the best of both worlds from sustainability and digital assets. The game is primarily going to be on the web and the users access it from a browser. The cards represent different items and choices people make in their day-to-day life. Each card has different characteristics like Carbon Rating, Profit Rating, Recyclable cycle, and Battle Points. The concept of the game is to make sustainable choices while competing with other players

The game logic and play are built using blockchain smart contracts and is completely autonomous. We are using different tools and services provided by the WAX blockchain network to build this game. The game makes it possible for players to compete, wager tokens, collect cards, trade cards, fuse cards, steal cards, and most importantly it will educate them about sustainability.

Now we know about the game let’s discuss how we are building it and why we have chosen WAX Blockchain. I’ll take the bottom-up approach to explain different functionalities and benefits:

Onboarding and User Experience:

One of the most important things for any successful application or game is the need for an easy onboarding process to offer fast and best user experience. Blockchains in general add more friction to the user experience due to the complexity with authentication and handling of public-private keys. It adds the need for more education of the users. The alternative approach to avoid this complexity is to develop and provide additional services like user keys management (a.k.a custodian services) and security handling etc.

One of the reasons we are building on WAX Blockchain is because it offers a wide variety of industry-standard ready-to-use tools for easier integration, onboarding, and better user experience for our game players.

WAX Cloud Wallet (WCW) is offering us an easy way to get access to thousands of existing users on the blockchain. It is designed to be simple for mainstream gamers and general users to play our game, this will help us to easily reach out to the users outside the crypto community. In general, WCW offers authentication as a service and supports 48 different languages today; it makes it possible for enterprises and developers to focus on driving business instead of account security and management. Free Transactions:

On many of the public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum, a user must pay a fee to process the transaction on the network. The fee model adds extra complexity to the users and developers of the application, thus limiting the mass adoption.

WAX Blockchain is built using EOSIO blockchain software which offers flexibility for the developers to build games and applications without any added complexity of fees. As a developer of the application, I can lease resources needed to run my smart contracts and when I don’t need the resources anymore, I can sell the resources and get my money back. In this way as a developer or as an organization building an application on WAX creates the possibility of free transactions.

User-Base:

One of the biggest challenges with any new idea or game or application is that finding the right user-base and access to customers. It is even more difficult in the blockchain industry as there is a learning curve.

WAX Blockchain currently have 496,593 accounts created by the users. Though users could have multiple accounts any new application or game deploying on WAX can directly get access to this user base. This helps games and applications to kickstart their growth.

Smart Contracts:

Smart Contracts make blockchains awesome and unlock the true potential. In different blockchains, smart contracts are created in different programming languages. For example, in Ethereum Blockchain one uses Solidity (a native language created for Ethereum blockchain), this new programming language limits access to a wide range of developers and makes it expensive to build an application.

As mentioned earlier, WAX Blockchain is built using EOSIO blockchain software which supports the creation of smart contracts in familiar programming languages like C++. This will enable us to find developer resources quickly.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Marketplaces:

WAX blockchain currently supports multiple open-source NFT standards like SimpleAssets, AtomicAssets, dGoods, etc. These standards are helping us to avoid the time it takes to develop and deploy different game assets. Also, the marketplace services provide us with direct access to primary and secondary markets.

Recently, The Topps Company has sold-out 110,000 GPK cards in just over 24hours and within a month the total transaction value in both primary and secondary markets exceeded $1 Million. The reason for such a huge success is due to the functionalities and services provided by the WAX Blockchain network.

In Battles of Humanity, we have cards which represent different stuff in our day-to-day life, we are taking the advantage of using these NFT standards and marketplace services to easily enable the trading functionalities of these cards and provide our users with true ownership.

Random Number Generator (RNG)

In Battles of Humanity, we need random selection and distribution of cards to different players. RNG is essential for games to ensure that it is fair to all the players of the game. But in most of the centralized games, today it’s hard to prove the fair play metrics. Achieving a random number purely in a decentralized fashion on a blockchain is difficult due to its transparent nature.

WAX Blockchain offers a decentralized RNG service which can power provably fair mechanics for thousands of games and apps. The transparent RNG service can be used to improve game mechanics, giveaway management, and games in general. For more information on WAX dRNG service, please visit: https://developer.wax.io/drng/

WAX Council and Industry:

WAX announce the Advisory Council initiative

WAX Blockchain has provided services to The Topps Company and made their GPK Trading Cards sale a great success. There are many more main-stream gaming and IP organizations looking to use the WAX Blockchain network.

In recent days, the WAX team announced the WAX Advisory Council, an organization that will bring together the greatest minds in tech, video gaming, entertainment, and other relevant industries to accelerate the adoption of WAX Blockchain technology. The first member of the WAX Advisory Council is also working as a product counsel at Google. For more information on WAX Advisory Council, please visit: https://council.wax.io/

I believe that as more and more industry players join and set the direction, it will help the whole WAX ecosystem to grow together.

In conclusion, as an entrepreneur, I wish to see the success of my game and the applications we build. To ensure that one must choose the best available services in the market which will not only reduce OPEX and CAPEX but earns you an instant user base. I believe with WAX Blockchain, we can get to the market and grow quickly.
