When I Sleep, I Dream of Profit
We’ve sailed beyond the breakeven point, into a sea of black. Gone are the days of living in the red, hear the company rejoice. We’ve slaved and starved and pushed ahead, in hopes we’d reach this day. The CEO then thanks us all, with an email oh so kind.
When I sleep, I dream of profit.
Before the money waterfall, we stand, with our bank accounts agape. Perhaps this day we’ll catch a bonus, and learn our monetary worth. I heard the C-Suite got a raise, they earned it with their brains. And if they see fit we’ll get a taste, as it should be forevermore.
When I sleep I dream of profit.
One percent, two percent, three percent, four? What percentage did we make? Is 100% even possible, I ask? God, I hope it so. Imagine a firm profound, they only make results. Now that would be quite a thing, a tantalizing thought.
When I sleep, I dream of profit.
The yachts set sail, the office expands, stepchildren all relax. Cash spills over the edge of your desk, an embarrassing delight. Consumers clamor, craving more, the prices soar again. And so the profit rises too, and we climax until we die.
When I sleep, I dream of profit.
But eventually, I know I’ll wake, and return to here and now. Sink slowly back into the mud, of only breaking even. I’ve made the business daddies mad, they expect to have it all. The leader of loss, the clipper of cost, I’m a squirming little grub.
But when I sleep, I dream of profit.
