High fibre diets that include vegetables, fruits and other plant-based foods including whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds have been rising slowly over the recent past. There are several key reasons driving this trend towards more veggie-centric eating plans:

Health Reasons
Research indicates that plant-based diets can indeed be a huge boost to health since they reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and certain forms of cancer. Exchanging meat options with additional vegetables and other plant protein sources decreases the consumption of products containing saturated fats. Take a lot of fruits and vegetables; these foods do not spike blood sugar levels but ensure proper digestion of foods.

Environmental Concerns
Meat and dairy production largely from factory farming is much worse for the climate than car use or even oil production says the United Nations. Animal agriculture consumes a significant portion of the world’s land, water and fossil fuel energy. Meat gain per capita has risen steadily in the past 50 years and the consumption of the same is exerting pressure on environmental resources that cannot be sustained.

Ethical Considerations
Some people avoid using animal products to cater to animal rights and animal safety issues that take place in society. The large-scale industrial method of rearing for food production churns out billions of animals per year that are reared in stressful small enclosures and confined spaces, and are often abused.

The Emergent Category of Plant Forward Products
With the growing trends in vegetarian/vegan and semi-vegetarian/ovo-lacto (flexitarian) diets, the global market for processed food substitutes made from plant protein sources is becoming increasingly saturated at an incredibly fast pace.
Plant-based products are gaining traction rapidly though they have only accounted for 13% of retail milk sales as per 2019 estimate. Other processed soy-associated food items and prepared meat substitutes and products such as tofu, and plant-based hamburger patties are also steadily increasing.

New Brands Creating New Waves in the Market
Independent brands targeting several niches with a greater focus on healthier and ethical options have been another massive contributor to mass market growth in plant-based products in the last decade.
