How Strong is Bamboo
Bamboo is one of the strongest natural material sometimes even out performing steel and concrete.But these materials don’t have biceps to show off their strengths, Let’s see how their strength is calculated by the mens of white coat.
How do we calculate a material strength
There are two types of tests usually performed , 1.Compression , 2.Tension. A material is subject to one or both based on the requirement, application or the situation.
Let’s see what is a Compression Test.
Compression test is simple , put you leg on a rock , nothing happens , put it on a piece of rubber , it compresses. So to put it simply compression test subjects the object to a load , and the amount it can withstand before its size starts reducing. The load at which it starts reducing its size is its Compressive strength.
Let’s see what is a Tension Test.
Let’s say you tie both the ends of a rock and try to pull it apart ,and do the same with a piece of rubber. The rock does not elongate as easy as the rubber so it has a better Tensile Strength or it resist being pulled apart.
Bamboo’s Tensile Strength is said to be higher than that of steel , but it might need few tricks before it replaces the steel on full scale, But people around the world are try out bamboos to reinforce their concrete.
