With travel and tourism at a near-standstill and the vast majority of the world forced into a “staycation” inside their homes, people are craving the outside world. While travelling right now is both very unsafe and highly discouraged, there will soon be a time when the situation has settled and people are allowed to move!

“Tourism recovery typically begins locally,” said Elizabeth Monahan, spokesperson for Tripadvisor.com. “Travellers tend to first venture out closer to home, and visit their local eateries, stay local for a weekend getaway or travel domestically before a robust demand for international travel returns.”

Driving to a local spot near your homes is not only affordable but also supports the local economy! It helps you discover new local gems which you may have overlooked on your way to the generic overcrowded destinations! This move to local destinations reduces the waste overload in the overcrowded tourist spots, while also reducing the amount of jet fuel which is burnt off transporting people from one country to another!

Resorts need to accept the new normal and create a truly authentic experience for local travellers. Tourism will have to be based on impact and conservation to stay relevant.

Change is inevitable. Progress is a choice.

Normal wasn’t working. This is our second chance to adapt to a new normal that’s better for the planet!
