Along with the restriction in outside movement, and the closing of gyms to comply with social distancing measures, people find themselves sitting idle at home at the risk of developing health issues stemming from a sedentary lifestyle. This could single-handedly cause illnesses in people and put further pressure on the already overworked healthcare system!

However, the famous proverb “Necessity is the mother of invention” was not taken lightly by people across the globe; within weeks of the lockdown, fitness brands had to figure out a way to pivot their online presence into thought leaders in the fitness industry without the ability to sell products. This limitation allowed brands and influencers to come together to form various campaigns around people working out from the vicinity of their own homes with no expensive equipment! With Reebok India’s #WorkoutFromHome campaign and PUMA India’s online workout series, people were occupied with step-by-step instructions for their daily workout through IGTV and IG Live.

Meanwhile, health and fitness platforms like HealthifyMe, Fitternity and Cure.fit have seen a major surge in traffic and retention times of people. Under the long pandemic shadow, it seems like many offline companies will have to pivot their business to online versions very soon.

While helping people get more regular with their workout routines, online fitness sessions also reduce the travel emissions from people driving in their cars to their gyms! While most people see this as an absolute win, there are people who thrive in a group environment while working out who aren’t too happy about this shift.

Change is inevitable. Progress is a choice.

Normal wasn’t working. This is our second chance to adapt to a new normal that’s better for the planet!
