This week we have an exclusive from one of our esteemed advisors Caroline Seow. Here’s a little bit more about her and what she thinks about blockchain and GreenLink!

The potential of cross sector collaboration for societal impact led me to venture into the family business, impact and non-profit space after nearly two decades in MNCs. Starting work-life as an IBM Systems Engineer, my last ‘corporate’ role was Head of Marketing, Apple Asia-Pacific. A passionate advocate of conscious capitalism, my work includes nurturing inclusive businesses, fostering cross-pollination of ideas and catalyzing for-profit and non-profit partnerships.

I am fascinated with the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) where the concept of digitising everything is becoming a reality. With its potential to connect billions of people with unprecedented power and access to knowledge, 4IR has the promise to improve the lives for populations across the globe. Yet to date, the largest beneficiaries tend to be the providers of intellectual and physical capital and consumers who are able to afford and access the digital world. With the rising gap in wealth between those dependent on capital versus labour, escalating inequality if not managed, represents the greatest societal concern associated with this revolution.

Yet 4IR technologies also have the potential to make inequalities visible, less acceptable and provide solutions to reduce the gap. Blockchain with its capability to democratize wealth creation and engage people on the margins is a powerful impetus for social change. Two examples — empowering small rural farmers who have tenuous land titles and eliminating remittance rip-offs as they facilitate cross-border transfers for the ‘unbanked’.

As a pioneer in supply chain transparency, blockchain startup GreenLink aims to empower both businesses and consumers to be a force for good — think educated consumers, 100% traceable products and slavery free supply chains.

My purpose is to enable an ecosystem where we strive to be best for the world. Being a part of GreenLink is a strategic step towards making that happen.
