Not sure what to give your colleague, friend, or loved one? Here’s how to do it thoughtfully AND sustainably!

1) Make it DIY!

Have something at home that can be repurposed? How about turning a glass bottle into a vase? Or re-make something from some old clothes? Sometimes a gift doesn’t have to be a “thing”. A poem, song or dance also works well and makes that person feel loved. Head over here for ideas and #MakeSmthng!

2) Clothes swap

No, this isn’t about gifting a dirty sock or a worn-out shirt. Give something that doesn’t fit anymore or that can be accessorised into something different. Is there something that still looks good but hasn’t been worn in a while? Gift it!

Every piece of clothing we buy has had an impact on our planet before we even bring it home — from the water used to the transportation and energy costs. Make something old new again — just make sure it’s in good condition!

3) Be inventive with wrapping paper

Beautiful gift wrapping becomes worthless and often goes into the trash after being unwrapped. Instead, play a game of “hide and seek” with the gift, or wrap it in something useful like a scarf or a bag.

4) Give a reusable water bottle

Plastic is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Help cut down on single-plastics by gifting a stylish and reusable water bottle.

5) Plant a tree

There’s no other feeling than watching something you’ve nurtured grow. A beautiful plant or an exercise in planting a tree together is not only fun, but is a gift that keeps on giving and growing! Planting trees not only helps us relax but also helps absorb carbon dioxide, making the world for you and everyone else a bit more green and peaceful.

6) Make a fruit card!

Instead of writing a greeting in a traditional paper card, use a piece of fruit! Write, carve or draw your message to your loved one, then share the piece of fruit after!
