Every day, people from all over the world fight to ensure a green, peaceful and safe future for our planet. From South Africa to Argentina, here’s a look at some of the top Greenpeace images this week:

Break Free from coal & protect water action in South Africa

On Africa Day, activists from coal affected communities, Earthlife Africa Jhb and Greenpeace Africa protest in Lephalale, a small town where the Medupi Power Station is being built, and where a new private coal-fired power station (Thabametsi) is being proposed. The area is incredibly water-scarce, but also has the 2nd largest coal reserve in South Africa
On Africa Day Greenpeace Africa joined other NGO’s e.g Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Action solidaire internationale (350.org partner in Senegal) to support a Forum and a protest organised by local communities affected by the construction of a coal plant, in Sendou and Bargny, two fishing villages located 35 km away from Dakar
German cities are under increasing pressure because the limits for harmful nitrogen dioxide (NO2) were exceeded again in more than 60 cities last year. Residents and environmentalists are increasingly demanding better air quality
Greenpeace activists protest at the Lazio regional government building in Rome. Greenpeace asks Nicola Zingaretti, President of the Lazio Region, for a recovery plan to improve air quality

Stop coal demo at German Chancellery in Berlin

La Moraleja lemon tree plantation in Argentina

La Moraleja is a ranch acquired in 1978 by Spanish businessmen, who are being investigated by that country due to corruption and lack of payment of credits. The ranch comprises 30,000 hectares and it is located in the Province of Salta, close to El Rey National Park and the Pizarro National Reserve, in a transition area between the Chaco Forest and the Yungas Forest. Currently, it has 15,000 hectares of agriculture, mostly transgenic soy and 3,000 hectares of citrus fruits, mostly lemons. The company La Moraleja S.A. is one of the main suppliers of lemon juice concentrate of The Coca Cola Company (with whom it has a 20-year contract).
Greenpeace has been publicly reporting the illegal clearings of La Moraleja S.A. since 2013.
In spite of this, The Coca Cola Company kept buying their lemon juice concentrate for its soft drinks, such as Sprite

VICTORY! EU - General court upholds pesticide ban

The General Court of the European Union has ruled that the European Commission was right to impose restrictions on the use of three bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides — imidacloprid, clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Greenpeace intervened in the Bayer and Syngenta cases to provide evidence and legal arguments in support of the restrictions

VICTORY! Netherlands: Dutch public must be consulted on nuclear extension

Greenpeace filed a complaint about the decision of the government to keep nuclear power plant in Borssele (NL) open for another 20 years without public participation on the decision. We won at the Compliants Commission of the Aarhuus Convention. This means that the government has to envolve the public in Holland. For the following years it could have mayor implications for another 90 nuclear plants all through Europe, where governments are investigating if they can extend the operations at the nuclear plants
