Following the publication of a new Greenpeace report on the climate-damaging activities of the Swiss banks Credit Suisse and UBS, activists from the Greenpeace regional groups carried out cleaning actions

VICTORY: Turkey: Cancellation of proposed coal plant

After two years of campaigning and working closely with the local community, the cancellation of the proposed Thrace coal plant was announced. Two-year struggle is led by local women assisted and supported by Greenpeace. There are more than 40 coal power plants in the planning stage, in Turkey, that Greenpeace has demanded be canceled. A major factor, aside from the opposition of the local community, in the decision was modeling by Greenpeace that air pollution of the proposed coal power plant project would have caused a total of 11230 premature deaths over the planned 40 years of the plant

Toxic smog in Bangkok

People wear face masks to protect themselves from the smog while commuting in Bangkok. According to the Pollution Control Department (PCD), today’s air pollution index in 20 areas in Bangkok and suburbs reached “unhealthy” levels with 56–103 micrograms per cubic metre and reached 55–96 micrograms per cubic metre in other 24 areas which surpassed recommended level. People with respiratory diseases are warned to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure

“Chico Mendes 30 Years: Memory to Honor, Legacy to Defend” event in Brazil

After fighting peacefully all his life, Chico Mendes left an extensive legacy, including a very successful literacy and learning program for rubber tappers, and the creation of Extractive Reserves (Resex), conservation units for collective use that allow people to benefit from the forests and their resources, like rubber tapping and nut collection, without destroying them

Muak Lek power plant opposition press conference in Bangkok

Muak Lek coal opposition network members hold protest signs and hand a letter to Kittipong Pinyotrakul, Secretary General of Energy Regulatory Commission to voice the group’s concerns on the failure of the Environmental and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) process.
The group states that the EHIA of the 150-megawatt coal fired power plant project is not comprehensive and properly conducted. This may cause inevitable impacts on environment and people’s health

VICTORY: BREAKING! HUGE VICTORY! A U.S. court has dismissed a massive pipeline company’s baseless $900 million lawsuit against Greenpeace and others. It’s a win for free speech and people power!
