Every day, people from all over the world fight to ensure a green and peaceful future for our planet. From Brazil to Indonesia, here’s a look at some of the top Greenpeace images this week:

Brumadinho Environmental Crime in Brazil

On January 25th, a tailing dam from an iron ore mine from Vale, a Brazilian mining company, collapsed, flooding with almost 13 million m³ of toxic mud the district of Córrego do Feijão, in the city of Brumadinho, in Minas Gerais state. Authorities search for survivors amongst the havoc.
This environmental crime takes place a little over three years after the dam collapse in the city of Mariana, also in Minas Gerais state, controlled by Vale and British-Australian BH. 60 people are confirmed dead and possibly 300 more missing
A large scale flood hit some provinces in Indonesia due to intense heavy rain in the last few weeks

VICTORY! Argentina: Stopping illegal deforestation for GMO soy and beef

The governor of the province of Chaco (northern Argentina) signed a decree that cancels the loopholes allowing big agribusiness corporations to deforest in forests protected by the National Forest Law (with the objective of producing GMO soy and beef that is mainly exported to Europe and China). This happened after 2 months of the launch of our report, our complaint linking floods in the north of Argentina with deforestation, the blockade of a bulldozer in an illegal clearing, and a lot of pressure on social networks towards the governor

VICTORY! Chili: New protected areas created in Patagonia: Kawésqar

This week the National Park Kawésqar and the National Reserve Kawésqar were officially created in southern Patagonia, Chile. The original proposal excluded the marine waters from the National Park, allowing development of new salmon farming projects in the area. After our work with Indigenous communities and other organizations, the protection includes marine waters, a huge step to achieve real and permanent protection of these fragile and unique ecosystems
