The AAU Junior Olympic Games have made a grand return to Greensboro, North Carolina,

bringing together young athletes from all over the country to compete in various sports.

This year’s event will attract around 19,000 athletes and 40,000 visitors, showcasing youth talents in a competitive environment.

Exciting Competitions

The games occur at multiple venues, including the Greensboro Coliseum Complex and the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Athletes will participate in events such as swimming and track and field, with the latter set to occur at NC A&T State University’s Truist Stadium,

where approximately 12,000 track and field competitors will showcase their skills.

One of the unique events to watch is sport stacking, which involves stacking cups in specific sequences.

Will Polly, a seasoned competitor since 2009, emphasises that anyone can participate, regardless of height or intellect.

He currently competes in relays with a team called Will Power, which holds the world record for the sport.

Polly hopes that sport stacking will one day be recognized as an Olympic event.

Economic Impact

The return of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is not just a sporting event; it also has significant economic implications for Greensboro.

Richard Beard, president of the Greensboro Sports Foundation, estimates that the games could generate close to $67 million for the local economy.

He proudly noted that Greensboro is one of only two locations in the world hosting Olympic events simultaneously with the Paris Olympics.

Community Involvement

The community is rallying behind the event, with local businesses and residents excited to welcome athletes and visitors.

The games not only provide a platform for young athletes to compete but also foster a sense of community and pride.

As the games continue from July 24 to August 3, Greensboro is buzzing with energy, showcasing its hospitality and commitment to youth sports.

The AAU Junior Olympic Games are a celebration of athleticism and community spirit, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
