Audio Log of Chuck Sasaki. 15 minutes of this recording have been redacted. This redacted portion is available to parties with a Level 2 security clearance.

Diane: — going to blow up this investment with your stupid, goddamn visions. You can’t still be talking about this. 700 billion!

Chuck: Diane, please —

Diane: Did you hear me? 700 billion! Why did you have to go crazy NOW? When the stakes were THIS GODDAMN HIGH?! And your years and months of corporate games mean that I can’t do anything to stop you. Christ, I can’t stand you.

Chuck: Those dreams are more real than this room. You NEED to trust me. I have to be the one to go on that mission.

Diane: Instead of any of our elite operatives who have trained for years to complete missions like this one? Yeah, I think you’ll do much better.

Chuck: They can’t do this! It needs to be —

Diane: I can’t talk to you anymore. You are not going on this mission. There are too many lives and livelihoods at stake.

Chuck: Exactly! That’s what the dreams are about! If we mess this up —

Diane: You know what? This is pathetic! You are pathetic! You’re just a narcissist who can’t stand to see someone else get an ounce of credit for this!

Chuck: I swear, it isn’t that. Please, listen. I told you because I know that you—

Diane: …are you recording this? What is wrong with you?

Chuck: It’s important that I do. I am really struggling to understand what’s going on with these dreams, and I’m hoping this might help.

Diane: You’re struggling to understand?! Yeah, interesting. I think I can relate. I’m leaving. You are not going on that mission. If you’re not an egomaniac then you are delusional, and I’ll make sure the board knows.

Introducing an improvised fiction, SPACE LOG: VERNE.

Each week, we alternate writing improvised segments of one story. Improvised, here, meaning we won’t be consulting each other on the direction of the story; we can only rely on what we’ve written in our previous Logs and what they dictate for the fates of our characters. This was Entry 2.
