Collagen beauty products have been out in the market for a very long time, but recently they have been gaining momentum as the benefits are brought more to light. We see collagen drinks everywhere. From Instagram ads to Pinterest boards to brand collaborations. Collagen drinks are designed to increase the natural collagen production of the skin. Beauty brands have been capitalizing on this trend for a long time now to give their consumers the best products imaginable.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the most copious protein found in our bodies. It is found in bones, muscles, skin, and tendons. There are two types of collagen: endogenous and exogenous. Endogenous collagen is natural and is synthesized by the body. Whereas, exogenous collagen is synthetic, it comes from taking supplements, drinks, etc. Collagen drinks have exogenous collagen, used for cosmetic purposes and repairing body tissues. Collagen drinks come in both liquid and powder form to be taken for boosting its production in our bodies. They are ideal for people who want to make their skin glow from within.

Researchers and dermatologists have a different take on these supplements and drinks. As we grow older, our natural collagen production decreases, which affects the firmness of the skin. To delay this process or to maintain the production of collagen, it is essential for us to have drinks and supplements. As dermatologists say, collagen drinks are designed to “top-up” the natural collagen production in our bodies. Collagen drink absorption in the bloodstream is hard, but these supplements are slightly diluted with other ingredients such hyaluronic acid.

Every collagen drink, supplement, and powder in the market varies from one another. Drugstore are bringing their home brands forward and some brands like Perfectil and Vital Proteins are offering collagen supplements according to needs. Vitybox is a subscription box that offers vegan collagen drinks drawn from ingredients in nature. These products usually take about two months to show results. If collagen drinks and supplements are taken in moderation and as mentioned, the results will show slowly but surely.

Collagen drinks are gaining momentum at a steady pace. Following this trend, beauty brands like Sheishedo have also come out with their own collagen drinks. Even VityBox was nominated as a breakthrough beauty brand in 2019. This proves that people are excited about maintaining their skin from within by purchasing these subscription boxes.

Certain brands are also collaborating with influencers/influencer brands to launch their own collections. One of the biggest examples is Vital Proteins x Poosh — a collaboration with Kourtney Kardashian’s lifestyle brand. There has even been a shift in the industry catering to more vegan-friendly options as most collagen drinks and supplements are derived from fish (marine collagen). With all the waves it has been making in recent years, it seems collagen also has the power to change the beauty industry from within.
