Tonight we are attending the Computing Rising Star Awards 2019 after successfully nominating my current colleague and CEO, Neil Herron, along with the whole Grid Smarter Cities team, for the ‘Excellence in Support’ award.

Grid is a smart city software and accessibility specialist, developing and rolling-out solutions that have tangible societal benefit for those that live and work in our cities.

I joined Grid in January 2015, and as someone that requires personal assistance in the workplace there is always an element of slight trepidation around joining a new company, and how I effectively manage my work and personal needs.

Since joining Grid I have been amazed by the sense of camaraderie and communal desire to create solutions to create a positive impact on society, and in the process supporting each other both professionally, personally and in my case even physically to achieve this. At Grid we strive to create a world free of barriers to independence. I’m proud to work somewhere that practices that same ethos.

With offices in London and Newcastle, the team collectively continues to amaze with it’s achievements as a relatively small organisation of approximately 15 full time employees. Last year Grid was ranked as 7th on the Metis Partners IP100 Intellectual Property League Table, with over 16 patents granted internationally. We have formed an exceptional in-house development team, adopting agile principles in their serverless architecture and practices.

Tonight is a celebration of what we have achieved to date, and the manner that it’s been done, as well as looking to the future and how as an organisation we can continue to innovate to create a better world for our staff, our customers and society as a whole.
