This month’s Founder Story is about Kim Stiefel, the CEO and Co-founder of Repeat.

How would you like to be automatically reminded to replenish your everyday essentials, like cleaning products, vitamins, toilet paper, etc.? Repeat has you covered! Founded by Kim Stiefel and Sarah Wissel, Repeat is a Smart Replenishment platform explicitly built for Consumer Packaged Good (CPG) brands.

Repeat’s engine learns the unique consumption habits of every consumer who’s opted into the service, then leverages this rich data set to drive repeat sales for CPG brands through a combination of automation, personalized reminders, and a cart purpose-built for replenishment.

As regional shutdown orders across the U.S. have quickly reshaped buying habits, consumers are looking to the web for more and more everyday items. And brands are quickly discovering that retaining these customers is key to survival and growth. With more than 70 percent of buyers never returning to a brand to repurchase, companies are desperate for solutions. That’s why Repeat is so relevant, especially today.

What is your venture? What do you do?

Repeat is a Smart Replenishment platform for Consumer Packaged Goods brands. CPG brands — like Youth to the People, Blume, and Hydrant — license our platform to turn one-time buyers into Repeat customers.

What prompted you to start your venture?

The first version of our software was used for our brand, UNDR, which we launched in 2017. We experienced the complexity of getting customers to reorder in a delightful and frictionless way, and we wanted to build something better, something with the consumer replenishment experience at the core. What we built worked for our brand, so we wanted to share it with the world; thus, REPEAT was born. As we like to say: “we lived our way to the problem” we’re now solving for other brands.

What’s unique and advantageous about being in LA (if applicable, DTLA) for you and your venture?

So many amazing CPG companies are born in LA!

As you think back to your Grid110 experience, what are the 1–2 lessons or takeaways that still stick out to you?

I feel like I truly began to learn exactly how to “talk about my startup,” how to pitch, distill the message, and keep it simple yet intriguing. I credit Grid110 for helping me craft the pitch that ultimately got us into Techstars LA.

Considering what Grid110 provides and offers, what has been the most impactful to you as a founder and business? How has the Grid110 experience influenced your entrepreneurial journey?

The community has been the most impactful. That and Miki Reynolds’ badass networking skills. Here’s a great example: we were looking for an intern, and Miki ended up introducing us to a senior at UCLA that she met months prior. For some reason, she had a strong gut that this person would be a good fit for our company, and she was right! We not only ended up working with Kelli Brookshire throughout her senior year, but we hired her when she graduated.

Time for some more FUN questions!

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A broadway star! Also, I literally cannot hold a tune to save my life.

What is your spirit animal?

A baby goat!

Who is your role model?

My mother.

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

No question — invisibility.

Wild round! Random fun fact?

I have a 5-pound dog who looks like a cat and is named Moose.
