Mike Areen Joins GridMatrix as COO
Former Sila Nanotechnologies Finance Director Brings Years of Deep Tech Operational Experience to GridMatrix’s Senior Executive Team & Board
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 2nd, 2023 — GridMatrix, the leading provider of cloud-based transportation analytics, is proud to announce that Michael Areen has joined the company as Chief Operating Officer and a member of its Board of Directors.
Areen joins GridMatrix from Sila Nanotechnologies, a next generation battery materials unicorn whose breakthrough innovation is the first significant chemistry improvement to lithium-ion batteries to reach the market in 30 years. Sila’s innovation powers today’s consumer electronics and tomorrow’s electric vehicles.

At Sila, Mike was a Director of Finance and Head of Strategic Finance for five years where he raised ~$1 billion dollars in capital for the battery materials unicorn and led strategy and financial planning. Prior to that, Mike ran Operations and Finance at multiple startups over 10 years including two successful exits. Previously, Mike was a Quantitative Analyst for a Long/Short Equity Hedge Fund in San Diego for 7 years.
Mike holds an MBA from USC Marshall and a BS in Mathematical and Computational Science from Stanford University.
