San Mateo County Awards GridMatrix Multi-Year Contract for Real-Time, LiDAR-Based Safety Analytics
San Mateo County, CA, January 8th, 2024 — GridMatrix, the leading provider of cloud-based traffic analytics solutions, is excited to announce that San Mateo County has selected its solution for its upcoming traffic and safety analytics program on Middlefield Road in North Fair Oaks, California. GridMatrix will install cutting-edge LiDAR units at locations along the corridor to gather real-time transportation data in support of San Mateo County’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic deaths.
GridMatrix’s hardware-agnostic solution will take the output from the LiDAR units to provide San Mateo County with real-time, ground-truth information on pedestrian, vehicle, and bicyclist usage of the Middlefield Road corridor. The solution’s use of LiDAR, which uses point-cloud detection rather than video footage, will also ensure that all road users’ privacy is protected while ensuring impeccable accuracy.
GridMatrix has assembled an innovative intelligent transportation systems (ITS) team to ensure that San Mateo County receives top-notch service and products. Northern California traffic solutions stalwart Bear Electrical Solutions will perform the roadside installation work, while the groundbreaking LiDAR solutions provider Outsight will provide the real-time LiDAR perception processing software, hardware, maintenance, and support. GridMatrix’s solution will unite the LiDAR data feeds on its cloud-based analytics program to create an integrated and easy-to-use system for county traffic engineers. The work will be done as part of the larger Middlefield Road Improvement project, which seeks to transform the half-mile stretch to improve local road safety and economic vitality.
