GridMatrix has partnered with TS&T to bring its software platform to the Washington, D.C. metro area

At GridMatrix, we pride ourselves on being able to leverage existing infrastructure to produce cutting-edge traffic analytics. Historically, we’ve focused on delivering this capability to local and state governments directly. These actors have ultimate jurisdiction over infrastructure and represent the end users of our platform.

But cities aren’t the only parties interested in improving existing infrastructure. Which is why we are excited to announce our new partnership with Traffic Systems & Technology (TS&T), the leading distributor of traffic safety and technology products in the DMV region. Traffic Safety & Technology is family-owned and operated and has been providing transportation, traffic, and lighting solutions to Mid-Atlantic governments for decades. They are deeply committed to improving regional transportation, both as a business and as active members of the community.

TS&T operates in a part of the country known for a complex transportation environment. The Washington DC region, which underpins the regional economy, is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the US. Its population grew 13% between the 2010 and 2020 census, nearly double that of the country as a whole, with much of the fastest growth occurring in suburban and exurban counties. This skyrocketing growth, especially in areas with longer commutes to traditional metropolitan centers, has created a jump in road usage and a demand for new infrastructure investments.

By joining forces, GridMatrix and TS&T play to our respective strengths to help each other answer these challenges. TS&T already has access to a wide range of excellent hardware options for governments looking to add sensing capabilities. Adding GridMatrix to these hardware pieces effectively supercharges TS&T’s existing catalog, adding new data-production capabilities to the top-of-the-line hardware the company is known for. This uniquely positions TS&T to both enhance the solutions it already has installed as well as new bundle options for future deployments.

GridMatrix, meanwhile, is able to reach a broader market through TS&T’s dedicated distribution network. TS&T has deep roots in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, and is already a trusted partner for powerful transportation technologies. The partnership simplifies the start-to-finish process of implementing a GridMatrix deployment for these users. TS&T can serve as the primary point of contact for government agencies, which as an established player improves the product’s accessibility. Moreover, on the technical side, while GridMatrix is able to work with a variety of sensor inputs, TS&T’s known sensor selection will simplify implementation by offering well-known starting points for the software during installation.

The big-picture value is even more significant. GridMatrix’s data can help cities pinpoint the root causes of challenges facing their constituents at the intersection. By combining granular data with access to the full TS&T catalog, the partnership can both diagnose the causes of and provide the solutions to the most pressing challenges cities face at their intersections today. Together, TS&T and GridMatrix can create cutting-edge answers to cities’ Vision Zero, emissions, safety, and congestion challenges.

“We are thrilled to partner with TS&T,” said Austin Wilson, Vice President of Business Development at GridMatrix. “Their team has a wealth of experience in the region, a great selection of products, and a friendly approach to doing business. We’re looking forward to combining our product with their existing catalog to improve outcomes across the Mid-Atlantic.”

“Traffic Systems and Technology is excited to add GridMatrix to its distribution network,” said TS&T Vice President of Sales and Marketing Roger Hale. “GridMatrix’s software will be a breakthrough technology for existing and emerging customers. Together, we will ensure our offerings continue to be on the cutting edge of what’s possible in the intelligent transportation systems marketplace.”

GridMatrix and TS&T’s partnership is an important milestone on the path towards a healthier and more efficient transportation ecosystem. Working together, GridMatrix and TS&T will provide stakeholders with data-driven insights and the tools they need to optimize the transportation experience.
