Let’s get one thing straight: Branding > Making a logo.

To brand is to identify, to impress, and to promise. Promise what exactly? To promise buyers that you will deliver by a certain standard. Your brand is how people perceive you; how people remember you. Brand boldly, and you can be the next big thing in your industry. Brand poorly, and risk being overlooked; or worse yet, becoming infamous. Is branding easy? Not necessarily. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

“Your brand is what other people say about you when you’re not in the room.” — Jeff Bezos

It’s getting much harder to grab consumer attention. Add the fact that we live in a time where services and products are more accessible than ever before with no signs of slowing down, it should be in a company’s best interest to set itself apart. After all, products can be easily copied, but a brand is unique.

By building a brand boldly and determining the right brand values, you are setting your business up to stand out and be a signal to consumers and staff alike. Your bold brand tells both parties, “This is what we stand for.” Now your employees have focus, direction, and purpose, while your customers have less tiresome choices to make.

This in turn makes consumers feel good when engaging with your brand because they become more at ease. This good feeling is exactly why everyone has a brand, or brands, that they love to associate with. Whether it be the feeling of working at a well-known company, owning a specific item of clothing from a fashion brand, or even drinking Coke instead of another beverage, bold brands bring value.

Branding is relationship-building, and being able to connect with your consumers on an emotional level is a sign of a bold brand. 👍

One of the most valuable brands in the world and it’s definitely not due to low prices.

Be beneficial enough and you’ll find yourself having to make fewer choices as well with positive word-of-mouth promoting your brand.

That alone, however, does not mean that it’s going to be smooth sailing the rest of the way. As mentioned earlier, branding is not that easy. It takes time. It takes effort. Branding extends to all facets of your company, from your logo, your visuals, your voice & copy, your product quality, the way you tend to customer needs, and much, much more. For those wanting to start something, keep this in mind early on to save yourself more pain and more stress.

If you have a product or service idea, then great! The next thing you need to think of is your branding. Going back to Jeff Bezos’ quote, what do you want people to say about your brand? What message do you want to get across? What do you want your idea to be remembered for?

Set your foundation strong with the right values, build a brand guideline, and take it from there. Remember to be a benefit, not just an item. 💪

Business becomes better by building bold brands because bold beats bland.
