Aber Hall, a residence hall at the University of Montana.

Apartment hunting is fun!

But before you start poring through rental listings or shopping for furniture, find out if you are required to live on-campus.

Most freshmen are required to live on-campus, but there are exceptions for students living with relatives, participating in Greek Life, or needing an accommodation for medical reasons.

You can find out more about the residency requirement policy and how to request an exception on UM Housing’s website.

Whether or not you’re required to live on-campus, it’s worth looking into Residence Life’s options beyond traditional dorms, including apartment-style units and Living Learning Communities.
