Every week we start off our Neighborhood Ambassador team meeting with an icebreaker. It gets our juices flowing, helps us learn about each other, and usually makes us all laugh. While the icebreaker in the Neighborhood Ambassador meeting has been a staple for my three and a half years with the program, it has taken on a new importance during the COVID-19 era. It helps us check in with each other and brainstorm how we can support each other through this.

Our icebreaker this week was “how are you combatting pandemic/Zoom fatigue?” This was mostly for me as I needed ideas! With cases spiking around the state, we can all use some ideas about how to renew our commitment to social distancing and keep attending zoom university. So from each of our Neighborhood Ambassadors comes a few ideas to combat pandemic/Zoom fatigue.

Jordan — uses Dad jokes to cope. The best one so far this semester is “I get tired of zooming all day so sometimes I just skype.”

Marley — suggests going on lots of walks. When she is in zoom classes she also will shut her camera up to stand up and walk around some.

Erika — recommends attending virtual classes in different spots in your living area. Moving around keeps Erika sane.

Emily — knits in class to keep herself focused! Emily also recommends having lots of plants around for good vibes.

Chloe — has to take movement brakes from Zoom and suggests you do too! My current favorites are “Yoga for Virtual Learners” from Yoga with Adriene and a “Mood Boost African Dance Practice” from Kukuwa fitness. Apologies for the person who lives below me but to stay smiling I need to stay active.

Anna — keeps her creativity flowing while on zoom by coloring.
