What is a Neighborhood Council?

Missoula has 20 Neighborhood Councils (NC). Neighborhoods Councils, according to the Office of Neighborhoods, were established to “strengthen and encourage citizen participation in local government and to improve communication between citizens and City officials.” Neighborhood Councils are apart of many things here in Missoula. Have you ever seen the beautiful artwork on Traffic Signal Boxes around town? Lots of these are financed with Neighborhood grants. Another example of Neighborhood Improvement in Missoula is the coming together of Captain John Mullan NC to get playground equipment.

Why should you be involved?

While many UM students believe that Missoula will be a temporary home for them. It is still important to continue to make it a home for students years to come. Do you see something around campus you think could need work on? The University District NC is a great place to see what you can do to help. Students are an unheard voice yet make up a large population of the University District Neighborhood Council.

How to get involved?

Neighborhood Councils hold both Leadership Team meetings and General meetings throughout the year. Check out the City Calendar to see when the next Neighborhood Council meeting will be held and get involved in with the Missoula Community. You can also sign-up to receive an update about everything going on in your neighborhood and Missoula.
