Finding off-campus housing can be a challenge. Raise your hand if you found housing through a friend. Raise your hand if you found housing through Craigslist, Zillow, or Facebook. Raise your hand if you found housing through the UM Housing Finder.

The UM Housing Finder is found at umt.edu/housingfinder and is worth a look if you are in the search for a place to live. All the listings are user submitted through the ASUM Renter Center. Compared to Craigslist this service has very few scams. Just real people who live in Missoula looking for a roommate or a tenant.

To begin, choose if you are going to use the Roommate Finder or Rental Listings.

Let’s start with the Roommate Finder. Use your netID to sign in and create a roommate profile. You’ll answer a few simple questions about yourself and what you are looking for in a roommate. Once your profile is created, you will be able to see matches with other profiles on the site. (Matching fields will be green.) This way you can sort through who might be a good fit for you and contact them through the Housing Finder.

If you are not looking for a roommate, then click on Rental Listings. This page contains posts of each housing opportunity with pictures and all the necessary information. The Housing Finder makes it clear what the tenant pays for, how much the security deposit is, who created the listing and more!

Finding housing can be a struggle, but with the UM Housing Finder it does not have to be. It is not the only resource you can use to find housing, but at the UM Renter Center we highly recommend using it!
