Welcome back, UM students, staff, and faculty- to a whole new year! As we continue to battle the Covid-19 pandemic, please be advised that all customers will be required to wear masks when shopping in the Pantry. While we are just as anxious as you are to see everyone’s shining faces, we will continue to take the necessary precautions to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

Now that that’s out of the way, onto more FUN STUFF!

Check out our new digs!

While you’ve been away (hopefully enjoying a lovely holiday season), we’ve been busy rearranging our space! This new layout affords more open space for shoppers, as well as more storage for us. We hope that Pantry customers will find the new layout even more welcoming than the previous arrangement.

In addition to our new layout, we have adopted some evening hours for folks who are unable to make it in during the day. The Pantry is now open from 10am — 3pm & 5pm — 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We hope these extended hours will improve access for students who need it most.

UM Students: are you struggling to afford groceries? You may be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is a federal benefits program that provides financial support to individuals and families for the sole purpose of purchasing food each month. In addition to standard income and resource requirements, college students must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for SNAP benefits.

For more information about SNAP & college student eligibility, refer to our previous blogs here & here. You can apply for SNAP at apply.mt.gov.

As a reminder, all UM Food Pantry staff are trained to support customers in applying for SNAP. To make an appointment, visit umt.edu/pantry.

That’s all for now, folks. Stay tuned for a special update about our upcoming anniversary celebration & how you can get involved!
