An Instagram post about ASUM Legal Services’ interns.

Over the summer we launched the Griz Renter Blog. We didn’t really know if it would work, but it did, thanks in large part to the work of interns at our sister agency ASUM Legal Services.

Legal interns have always been critical partners for our agency. For instance, our legal opinion on carpet cleaning was written by interns several years ago.

That said, the contributions of this summer’s interns were exceptional. They contributed fun, informative posts that set the tone for this blog. Joe Gresham gave his take on security deposits, the most common issue that students contact us about. For her part, Reema Najjar contributed a thorough and readable article, “When Can Your Landlord Drop In?”

But this summer’s MVP was Sarah Palakovich, who wrote two excellent articles. One is about housing discrimination, and is an essential read for anyone looking for housing. The other, “Renting with furry family members (and pets without fur too),” was a detailed explainer, and stood out because Sarah actually made original memes with photos of her dogs.

A dog saying, “Please Mr. Landlord, let me live in the house you own.”

Joe, Reema, and Sarah showed the ability to translate legalese into content that is easy to understand and fun to read. Hopefully the writing process will prove as valuable to them as these articles are to the countless students they are helping.

Thanks, interns, for all your great work. We cannot wait to see your next adventures, and how future interns will build on your work.
