How I did User Persona research
It was always hard to answer this questions for me:
- “Can you pitch your product?”
- “What is your ideal customer?”
- “Do you have an exit strategy?”
- “Can you explain in 2 sentences, what are you doing more than a year?”
- “What is making your product unique”
and etc…
Answering this questions drives me crazy, because if I don’t know the answers, maybe it’s better not to build my product?
Partially, I know answers to this questions, but they only in my head.
And it’s related to my mood.
User research is important. Let’s figure out more about it.
User research gives you an answer for whom is your product. Analysing potential users & customers will help to:
- understand users’ needs, pains, motivations and decision-making process;
- outline the product roadmap, key features, UI design and UX scenarios for interacting with your product;
- define the right marketing message (positioning) and choose marketing channels to spread this message;
- make your marketing & communication strategy.”
I did some user research practice before. I wrote it in my previous articles.
I specified basic information about our future customers, but it never was completed well …
Why? Because it wasn’t in my priority.
A few days ago I was surfing at ProductHunt and saw that newest tool created by Hubspot company — “Make My Persona”. And I decide to do it. It’s a simple tool, but it can really help. Give this tool an upvote, worse it.
And read below how I use it.
- By following this link I find a great PDF tutorial, that will help me with basics.
- I googled Italian girl names for my “ideal customers”.
- I grab my Stick Notes in order to describe some basic information about customers.
- Using the walkthrough process I created 3 personas. I also add a section, where I have tried to explain “How that Persona can benefit from our product”.
As I need more than a free 3 personas — I download and delete old personas and replace them with new personas.
