Host Your Halloween Party in GroupRoom’s 3D Metaverse!

Your upcoming holiday parties deserve better than your daily 2D video meetings because life is better in 3D. Jump into a GroupRoom 3D space for your next social hour or holiday party.

GroupRoom Pro users get access to many more features besides room capacity and collaboration tools. They also get access to our new 3D metaverse spaces! Like our 2D proximity chat spaces, our 3D spaces support live streaming video with proximity-based chat as well. This means that other avatars’ video goes from gray to color and their audio gets louder the closer you get to them in the 3D space.

Getting started is simple and fun. The best part is finding a cool new 3D space on Sketchfab for your venue. Let’s build a GroupRoom 3D metaverse space together in 5 easy steps.

Step 1: Go to Sketchfab and search on “Halloween”. Remember to check the downloadable filter because not all models are available for download.

Step 2: Find the perfect venue. Luckily there are many halloween-themed 3D models on Sketchfab. Here’s the one we selected — best of all it was free!

Step 3: Select “Download 3D Model” and then select the version that is auto-converted to a GLTF. Once downloaded, unzip the file and upload the directory to a public server such as AWS S3 or Azure Storage. Note: You could even use your company’s Box or Dropbox account as well ;)

Step 4: Create a new GroupRoom and select “3D Rooms & Worlds” as your room type. If it’s a two-story space (or if you want to allow users to fly), you should set “Allow vertical movement” to true; otherwise, leave it set to false.

Step 5: Add the following A-Frame 3D code to the scene builder (as shown in the image above) and click on the Create Room button.

Note: you can scale the venue larger or smaller by tweaking the x,y,z scale values below. Since this is pure A-Frame logic here, you can get creative and add other 3D models or secret rooms to the code snippet below and make your space even more fun and interesting…

You can also add HTML content to your new 3D space such as videos or creepy sound effects by clicking on the “Add HTML” button above. Here’s an example of a creepy streaming audio feed.

That’s all folks! You did it! You’re now the host with the most ghost-ly fun tricks up your sleeve! Here’s an example of the new GroupRoom 3D metaverse space that we have just created together. Now all you need to do is invite your friends!

Best of all, your new GroupRoom 3D space runs in any Web browser (mobile, laptop, or desktop) and on any operating system. If you have an Oculus or Vive (or Hololens or MagicLeap), you can click on the “VR” icon in the bottom right of the screen and toggle into 3D immersive XR mode to really see the cemetery come to life!
