First Impressions:

Happn’s profile section.

The great thing that stood out on this app is that you don’t have to pay for ‘backtracks’ or ‘rewinds’ (as they are called on Happn). The design of the app is vertically configured, so you need only swipe up and down to look at various matches.

Pros:

  • Profiles seem to be more professionally aligned than other apps: As you swipe through the profiles of various individuals, their profession seems to be stated quite prominently on the outset. You don’t have to dig any deeper to know that piece of information about them. Very handy for those looking to network as well as date!
  • The interface is vertically configured rather than horizontal: The way in which the interface is laid out makes it easier to swipe on it in our opinion. We remember that Tinder posed a slew of problems sometimes with its horizontal swiping (mostly concerning glitchy profile switches).
Games are integrated with the app — You can play a matching game of sorts every now and again! This makes things a lot more fun on the app.
  • There’s a dedicated activity page: On this section, you can tap on a certain activity that you would like to do with your date (grabbing a bite, catching a movie, going for a walk etc.). This is good for daters who are stumped as to what to do on a date with their match!

Cons:

  • You can see people who have crushes on you but not the people who ‘liked’ you: Viewing the people who ‘like’ you seem to introduce you to more dating prospects in comparison to banking on ‘crushes’ alone.
  • Advertising seems to be heavily incorporated in the app: Ads are weaved into the main feed. If you’re not a fan of that, then you may not like the app. The ads are more muted in nature however compared to other apps and do not play on you at unexpected times. So that’s a plus!
  • It is not mandatory to upload their pictures: This was most evident by how some users had no images associated with their profile.

Final Verdict:

Happn’s activity page.

Overall, despite the design of happn being desirable, it wasn’t very happn-ing for us. While the absence of needing to backtrack to a previous match is quite refreshing, the lack of verifiable profiles led to us not feeling very trusting of the profiles. What are your thoughts?
