I developed some self watering cloth pots and posted it on instructables

Turns out the setting on the 100W Kaitian brand laser cutter at Noisebridge that works on pretty much any 100% poly fabric is: 100mm/s speed and 7% power.

100% poly gabardine

I tried a gabardine bottom and a burlap bottom, and in the end decided that gabardine would be better for wicking

This is the wick design I made. The loop goes in the pot so you can make the wick go near the plant roots.
