🌽Update #2~for Women in Maize I 2022 sponsors
Dear Sponsor,
Thank you for the opportunity to manage your farms and getting our women farmers so excited about the funding initiative that affords them the chance to scale to cultivate more as you also reap the benefits.
Below is the monthly summary of the crop performance for the month of June through to July, 2022.
Field Establishment
Although various women groups could not establish block farms as proposed, all women farmers have planted their individual fields and have been provided with fertilizers.
Crop Growth Stage
Planted maize fields are at varying stages of vegetative growth. Leave development and stem elongation is taking place within various fields. Some fields have begun observing heading and inflorescence emergence. Farmers are currently spraying to control weeds and armyworm in the farms. Some farmers have applied fertilizers to their fields already with others yet to do it.
Weather Conditions
Weather conditions observed over the area has generally been good although fluctuations have been occurred and rainfall has been inconsistent. Humidity however, has been high.
The amount of precipitation (rainfall) and temperature recorded through the month of May to July has been adequate with growth observed in the various fields. The temperature range for maize vegetative growth is from 9° to 46°C with an optimum of 34°C is required.
The temperature reading from the satellite showed a Maximum reading of 28℃ and Minimum of 21℃. This indicate a favourable condition for plant growth and development. Fields planted earlier due to the optimum conditions have begun heading with inflorescences emergence about to occur.
Rainfall observed over the area is has been low but with high humidity, lowering the rate of evaporation across the fields. Precipitation (rainfall) levels recorded as at July 8th was 67.3mm with a humidity of 90%.
The team is currently working with extension officers assiduously to ensure a successful farming season.
