🌾 UPDATE №3 for RICE I 2022 SPONSORS

Dear Sponsors,

I am excited to come your way once again with an update on your rice farms. From our previous updates, you were informed of the state of land preparation and seeding from the first and second pass (batch). It is with great excitement that we inform you that all fields have been successfully planted.

Field Establishment: All sponsored farms in the second pass (batch) have observed good emergence with no seedling failure. Farmers are refilling fields with low plant stand while those who have over-populated seedlings are thinning out.

Good seedling emergence and plant stand obs#served in rice fields.

Crop growth stage:

The first pass of Paddy fields are in the advanced stage of vegetative growth with some few already in the reproductive phase. Paddy plants are in late tillering stage have begun Panicle initiation. Some fields are in their reproductive phase with paddy plants already booting. Fields in the second pass have good emergence and good plant stand. Some paddy plants are in the leave development phase and some in the early tillering stage.

Crop maintenance:

Farmers in the first pass (batch) are controlling weeds within their fields and top dressing of fertilizer already done. Farmers in the second pass are currently controlling weeds and basal application of fertilizer application ongoing among fields.

Weather Conditions:

For optimum development of the paddy plant, a temperature range of 25℃ to 35℃ is required. The weather condition over the rice farm as at 8th July, 2022 shows a maximum temperature of 30℃ and a minimum temperature of 22℃.

Temperature recorded from May 20th to July 8th is Max 30℃ and a Minimum of 22℃.

However, rainfall over the area has been very low with a precipitation reading of 6.8mm. For good rice plant growth, precipitation (rainfall) should be more than 20mm. Farmers are therefore irrigating fields to supplement the required amount of water needed by the plants.

Low precipitation of 6.8mm and moisture content observed in the paddy fields.

The farm operation team is working with farmers and regularly monitoring fields both remotely and in-person to ensure a good harvest.
