‘That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. ‘ — Romans 1:12

‘Now, this means that when we come together and are side by side, something wonderful will be released. We can expect to be co-encouraged and co-comforted by each other’s faith!’ — Romans 1:12

Have you ever asked yourself why we meet to fellowship together as saints? We’ll explore this a little today.

Why do we meet

The text for today clearly highlights why we meet to fellowship — it’s to strengthen ourselves for the faith work that is ahead of us.

This does not happen in a vacuum though, it requires the active participation of all the saints that meet to fellowship — I’m not saying it, the word says so:

‘How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. ‘ — 1 Corinthians 14:26

‘From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. ‘ — Ephesians 4:16

‘Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. ‘ — Hebrews 10:25

Every one of us, from the least to the greatest has something to supply to the whole — it’s your duty to seek God’s face and ask Him what He has put in you to supply.

Action for today

Take some time out to pray ahead of your next fellowship and ask God what it is He has put in you to strengthen the body.
