After Three, but Before Four

A Month of Poetry (Restless)

It’s early, it’s late.
You’re never
as needy as
the moment
you can’t sleep.

You need me.
You need the
pulse of my
hard veins
in your palm.

Your arms land
across my chest.
Then you slide
beside my hips
and touch me.
You touch my leg
and crawl up
like a snake swallowing
a victim whole.

do you see me? like I see you?

Then you’re on me
like a scorpion
You feast on dry,
decadent desert
carrion, swallowing
such supple flesh
dripping between
your fingers and
pooling at your feet.

Hunger makes you
a modern lover;
hunger makes you
abandon your senses.

I’m awake, then I’m alive.
I’ve got the cure,
you see it between my
thighs. I’m the apothecary,
the back-alley pharmacist.
Come in, come in —
I am open well past dark.

I’ll sell you a feral draught
to ease your restless mind.

The clock says it is
after three but before
four, in the hour when
your mind alerts you
that me and my
cock are helpless
and we would love
to become your next
victim.

Tonight. Please.

It’s October and that means that KG is kicking off a month of poetry today. As my good friend Amy Lee said “Remember, the whole point of Poe-tober is not to churn out verse but to immerse ourselves in poetry. What a beautiful endeavor…”

I couldn’t agree more.

If you liked my poem please clap (50 times!), highlight your favorite bits, and comment. Please subscribe to my Medium page if you would like.

Thank you to Growl Publication for hosting this party. Thank you for reading!
