A Month of Poetry (Hunter’s Moon)

We are learning to hunt
for you.

We are looking ahead to the fork
in the road.

We are traveling the
blue ridges.

We are whispering to ghosts
in the mountains.

We are digging deep to
keep an area
safe from your
solipsistic ways.

We are paying attention.

recovering the satellites is a full-time job

We are learning to hunt
for you.

The Captain is dead, the moon is down.
We are lost but we are free.

We wake with the rest of the universe
and stumble down the stairs
to a cup of cold coffee.

We are guided by the light
of the Hunter’s Moon.

When we return, we will share
the harvests that we bundled
in burlap sacks on our backs.

And we will teach you how to hunt,
so you can be ready
to hunt for us
when the next full moon arrives.

We are learning to hunt
for you.

It’s October and that means that KG is kicking off a month of poetry today. As my good friend Amy Lee said “Remember, the whole point of Poe-tober is not to churn out verse but to immerse ourselves in poetry. What a beautiful endeavor…”

I couldn’t agree more.

If you liked my poem please clap (50 times!), highlight your favorite bits, and comment. Please subscribe to my Medium page if you would like.

Thank you to Growl Publication for hosting this party. Thank you for reading!
