When I heard about Black women experiencing massive job losses in April, I never imagined I’d be one of them in May — but I was. According to Black Enterprise, over 100,000 Black women lost their jobs in April 2025, marking the steepest decline among any demographic.
If you’re employed, this story might not resonate and I understand. Earlier this month, I had “a good job” helping to manage a $12 million employment training grant for two government agencies. Then, in less than 24 hours, I went from smiling after wrapping up a fabulous (and surprisingly affordable) lunch at at Fogo de Chão and debriefing with my manager about my great site visit to filing for unemployment.
