So you just lost your job what’s next? Well what you do next could Literally determine how quickly you recover or find a new job.

Here are five really hard steps that you need to take to get you back on track and I need to warn you #5 is a doozy. As usual I’m not going to tell you what you want to hear. This is an ongoing Grown Folk Conversations so buckle up butter cup. Here’s what you need to hear to survive and hopefully thrive and make it to the other side.

Losing your job is traumatic, embarrassing and can be a huge financial crisis. The reality is a job loss could literally cause you to lose your home if you’re on medications it could actually cause a major medical crisis and if you have children it could put your childcare and other resources in jeopardy.

Again the whole purpose of this series is to talk about the experience and to help people prepare and find resources.

I’m not a licensed therapist but unfortunately as a former teacher and having worked in the nonprofit sector most of my career I’m darn near an expert on layoffs. Between funding issues and reorganizations I’ve seen and been through…
