HOW GROWTHBOND IS BUILDING AN INTERNET MARKETING ARMY IN THE ISOLATED GAZA STRIP
Local SMEs in Gaza typically lack access to the capital and skills necessary to realize the full growth potential of online/offline marketing. It is a challenge for local freelancers to get into the rather competitive international freelance marketplaces without a track-record, a portfolio, and real-life experience.
GrowthBond solves these problems by providing small and local businesses with funding for their online marketing campaigns to be used for 1) an advertising budget and 2) online marketing professionals/freelancers to assist with the marketing. This approach enables local freelancers to build a portfolio, a track-record, and valuable experience before pursuing customers on international freelance portals such as Fiverr, Freelancer, and Upwork.
During a period of 4 month, a total of 24 companies from Palestine were assigned to 20 local digital marketer trainees who had recently finished their digital marketing online courses and participated in eight live Facebook advertising training classes.
By the end of the project, the freelancers had delivered 23 online marketing plans for local companies, which were reviewed and approved by an experienced Facebook marketing specialist. Once the plans were approved, the freelancers were added to a supervised Facebook Ads Manager and given the role of Facebook Advertiser. Twenty-two of the freelancers then started to build campaigns for their assigned companies in accordance with their marketing plans. By the end of this part of the project, freelancers had successfully created action plans and executed Facebook marketing campaigns for 22 companies in Palestine, many of which turned out to be major success stories.
We assisted the individual freelancers in creating a good-looking freelance profile as a way to attract more companies. Below are examples of the freelance profiles. Below is a screenshot of how each freelancer got individual feedback on his or her profile in a Facebook group:

By the end of the project, 15 companies in Palestine and 2 companies in Jordan accepted, started, and completed their online marketing campaigns. Below are examples of some of the ad campaigns created by the freelancers from Palestine:

Once the action plans were approved, the freelancers were added to a supervised Facebook Ads Manager and given the role of Facebook Advertiser. Freelancers then started to build campaigns for their assigned companies in accordance to their drafted marketing plans. Most of the campaigns ran for one week, with a total budget of $160.
The freelancers were instructed to run campaigns aligned with the wishes of the company. The most frequent campaign objectives were Lead Generation, Page Likes, Engagement, and Conversions and Traffic.
Many of the freelancers managed to achieve great results, mostly because of proper A/B testing and targeting less competitive local markets, including, but not limited to, Gaza Strip (depending on the wishes of the company). Most noteworthy, some of the freelancers even managed to achieve $0.001 per engagement, and $0.01 for page like and link click, which is considered to be way above average results in the digital marketing industry.
For freelancers to motivate each other, we also created a Facebook group, “Growthbond Success Stories,” where freelancers shared their campaign results and inspired each other by revealing the techniques that had led to their success.
