My 4 Initiatives as CTO
The masterplan
#1: Build atop of infrastructure
GrpFit is built on top of a solid foundation in terms of infrastructure; for example, a continuous delivery (CD) pipeline is present in both frontend (iOS) and backend, automated server provisioning, coupled with alerting and monitoring from front to back. Some goals here include:
- Enhancing the CD pipeline to correspond with our software process delivery cycle
- Remote server for CD pipeline currently it’s ran locally
- Automate and implement horizontal scaling of servers
- A centralized dashboard for analytical data
- Write tests for both front/backend and integrate in pipeline
- And more…
#2: Enhance the user experience
The current user experience (UX) for the GrpFit iOS and Android app works and our growth proves it but there is much room for improvement, refinement, and experimentation. In particular user discovery, we are often asked from our users, “can you make it easier to find people”. So for us we need to improve the UX for discovering and surfacing other amazing people on the platform without being over bearing.
#3: Onboard a new member to head Android development
Currently, our iOS app is constantly being developed on and improved while our Android app is falling behind in feature development and bug fixing. My goal is to bring on an Android developer, in an intern or part-time capacity, to show GrpFit on Android some love.
#4: Talk with Users (i.e. feature development)
There is a strong correlation between a successful product or service and how close the team is to their users. What this looks like for us is a conversation with 1–3 users per week to get their feedback not only on the app but also the brand. This is to ensure we are attuned to our users and community and to make sure we are on the right track at all times.
