“This Article Won’t Change Your Mind”

Fake news has become a hot topic in the last six months. In her article for The Atlantic, Julie Beck covers not just the topic and focuses on how we react to news based on pre-existing beliefs.
Pre-existing beliefs deeply shape what we see (as we build our comfortable bubble of confirmation online) and how we react when we see things that don’t confirm them. Simply put, we tend to dismiss everything that is not in agreement with our worldview, despite evidence to the contrary. It’s a cycle that’s hard to break.
If you want to know more about the inner workings of your beliefs and prejudices and how they impact on your behaviours this article is a great read.
“(…)the inherent contradiction of false knowledge is that only those on the outside can tell that it’s false. It’s hard for facts to fight it because to the person who holds it, it feels like truth.”
