Jalan Jalan: August 16, 2017

By: Shei Yu

With summer break having come to an end, GS Green Generation is back in session with many exciting updates. The new academic year at Green School marks a period of change and renewal. As rejoiceful as it is to reconnect with friends from last year, it is equally thrilling to watch our community grow with people we have yet to meet. During orientation, I, along with members Daisy, Ruby, and Regan gave a presentation to new high school students on the urgent need to take action on climate change — regardless of how small those actions might be.

We hoped to introduce GS Green Generation’s past work and encourage interested students to join our Jalan-Jalan, a four hour session on Wednesday mornings dedicated to furthering our activist work.

The first major task of our meeting was to reorganize. As we prepare to launch our new website(!!), we have managed to restructure GS Green Generation into four main pillars of focus: Climate Awareness, Media, Projects, and Partners. Along with our new members, we brainstormed and discussed in small groups:

What do each of these terms mean to us?

What do they encompass? Why are they important?

If you were someone who had to own this area of focus, what would you be doing?

One thing that kept resurfacing in conversation was the fact that challenges we faced last year were mostly caused by poorly delegated tasks. So our next action is to develop clear and specific job descriptions within each area of focus. Our goal for next week is to clarify and assign each person’s role on the team so we all know what to be responsible for.
